In the next week we will discuss some of the more exciting changes with this release. For this post we are going to focus on Chatter.
What is Chatter?
Chatter is salesforce.com’s enterprise social network. This means that it is an internal social media platform that is exclusive to your company. Your sales team or other professionals within your company can instantly communicate and share information without having to resort to external social interactive tools.

What will change with the salesforce.com Summer 12 release? Chatter will be adding a feature called Chatter Messenger, an instant message program. In it’s previous form, you needed to refresh your browser to see an updated message. The new release will have instant real-time updates, no need to refresh.
There will be many options for you to edit in your Chatter program. You will have the use of emoticons, creating favorites for your chat lists and changing your notification sounds. You will also be able to chat with up to 10 people at one time. In the new Summer 12 Release, you will also be able to upload multiple files at once. This feature may not work with all internet browers, so you will need to check your current version of your browser. All of the multiple files upload features should work with the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox.
And last but not least, a new version of Chatter for iOS (for iPhones and iPads) will be available. If you are already using an older version of the app for Chatter on your iPad, you will not see a pending update in the App Store. Just download the new version of Chatter v2.1 from the App store to get the latest for your iPad. You will also need to update to iOS 5.0 if you have not already done so for both your iPad and iPhone to use Chatter for iOS v2.1.
